Talk of the Town April 2024

Dear TR Friends,

As April brings us more flowers and the grass turns green, we look forward to celebrating our 10th anniversary of Trailblazer Park. An idea that sprouted from the opportunity to utilize the old TR High School property along with Greenville County that morphed into a hub for all things city services, our farmers market, music events, weddings and so much more! Love to see you at the celebration – see info. below.

Also, please pick up trash around town as you stroll along the Swamp Rabbit Trail, Main Street, and in our public parking lots. I try to remember to bring a bag when we take a walk just in case I can grab a few pieces along the way! It’s a never-ending community service project to Keep TR Beautiful and so much appreciated by everyone.

Happy Spring!

Brandy Amidon

Mayor of Travelers Rest

TRPD Accreditation Officer

Teresa began her career with TR’s Police Department in 2020 after serving as the Assistant Dispatch Supervisor for the SC Highway Patrol. In 2023, she was promoted to Accreditation Officer.

Two years ago, Teresa committed to improving her health including daily walking, and has lost over 100 lbs. Last month, Teresa participated in the Leprechaun Leap Walk and helped raise over $2500 for our police and fire departments.

At lunchtime, you’ll find Teresa enjoying her walk through Trailblazer Park. She inspires us all and we are grateful to have her on staff!

TR Fire Department Update

We are proud to report that the Travelers Rest Fire Department was among 151 fire departments across the State to receive the “Fire Safe South Carolina 2023 Community Designation” presented by Fire Safe South Carolina, and its partners.

To earn the designation, our department completed courses to improve data quality, train community partners to deliver in-home safety visits, and further develop their skills through online National Fire Academy courses in risk reduction and assessment. As a result of the hard work, commitment, and dedication of our fire department and their community partners, TR is a safer place to work and live.

From the Public Works Department

Our public works staff members have been very busy working on projects to make TR beautiful!

Swings at the Gazebo: The swings at the gazebo on Main St were recently rebuilt. Once the wood cures, they will be painted and ready to enjoy for years to come.

Parking Lot Restoration Project:

The parking lot on Poinsett Hwy. next to Gateway Park is getting a facelift. New parking space striping and flower beds are being installed to spruce it up in time for the busy spring season.
