City of Travelers Rest Welcomes New City Administrator, Shannon Herman

 Travelers Rest, SC – February 19, 2024 – After completing a comprehensive recruitment effort, the City of Travelers Rest is pleased to announce the appointment of Shannon Herman as the new City Administrator, effective February 26, 2024. Herman replaces Eric Vinson who retired December 29, 2023, after 29 years of government service, including the past five years as Travelers Rest City Administrator.

With a wealth of experience and proven leadership, Herman is ready to take on her new role, guiding our city on a path of continued growth and success. “It is my honor to serve the residents of Travelers Rest in this capacity,” said Herman. “The City’s leadership has done a fantastic job shaping a vibrant, unique town, and I look forward to working with the City Council to further this success and vision.”

Herman has served Greenville County since 2007 and joins the City of Travelers Rest with 17 years of experience in local government administration. As Assistant Administrator for Strategic Operations with Greenville County since 2017, she led EMS, Emergency Management, GIS, and all State appointed departments, including the Human Relations Commission, Voters Registration and Elections, Veteran Affairs, and Workforce Development.

Shannon managed the County’s real estate development while serving as liaison to all County area fire departments and criminal justice agencies. Most recently, she served as the project manager for the $1 billion University Ridge infill development in Downtown Greenville, the largest economic development project in the history of Greenville County.

Mayor Brandy Amidon, expressing her enthusiasm for the appointment, stated, “On behalf of my colleagues on City Council, we are thrilled to have Shannon join our community to lead our city management team and our dedicated employees in the City of Travelers Rest,” said Mayor Amidon. “We all know how important this leadership role is for the health and sustainability of our city. Shannon brings with her a wealth of knowledge and a love of TR.” “Welcome aboard, Shannon!”

Shannon graduated from Presbyterian College with a BA in History and Political Science and later earned a Master of Public Administration from Clemson University. A native of Greenville County, Shannon and her husband, Chris, spend most of their time enjoying their two boys, Ben and Brooks, coaching soccer and traveling the United States.
