Beyond the Burrow Public Art Project

OVERVIEW

The Beyond the Burrow public art project will feature six large rabbit sculptures placed along the Swamp Rabbit Trail and outside shops in the Central Business District.  Artists will be selected to paint colorful imagery representing Travelers Rest’s transformation from a quiet roadside stop on the way to the mountains to a thriving destination with a flourishing economy and a dynamic arts scene.

The project invites the public to explore and embrace the city’s growing sense of identity, place, and community. Each sculpture will showcase a design inspired by the city’s rich history, heritage, its people, and the vibrant diversity of the community.

Sponsorships will be offered to local businesses that will work with the artist and the project director to select the rabbit’s theme, name, and location. The rabbits will be installed on concrete slabs and identified with plaques listing the rabbit’s name, artist’s name, sponsor, and a QR code linking to the rabbit’s profile, artist’s narrative, and sponsor.

The Beyond the Burrow program is funded in part by the City of Travelers Rest, the Metropolitan Arts Council which receives support from the City of Greenville, BMW, Manufacturing Company, and SEW Eurodrive, and a grant from the South Carolina Arts Commission which receives support from the National Endowment for the Arts.
