Municipal Election Commission

Responsibilities
South Carolina state law authorizes municipalities to hold national, state, and local elections. These elections, conducted and supervised by the Municipal Election Commission (MEC), allow eligible citizens of Travelers Rest equal access to the election process so they may exercise their right to vote.

Members
The City of Travelers Rest Municipal Election Commission is comprised of three individuals appointed by the Mayor and City Council, who are residents and registered voters of the City of Travelers Rest.

Term of Office
Each MEC member serves a staggered 6-year term. Duties include but are not limited to:

• Review candidate filings
• Review the election ballot and precinct list to affirm approval with County
• Visit and review the voting process on the day of municipal elections
• Review ballot tabulation
• Certify candidates and election results with the County
• Hear protests
