TALK OF THE TOWN | SUMMER 2021

From the Mayor’s Desk

Dear Residents and Friends of TR,

We, here at the City of Travelers Rest, have been busy setting the stage for a fun and eventful end of summer. Read below for all the many happenings coming around town. Our focus for 2021 has been to create as many opportunities as possible for small community gatherings.

We’ve also put focus on outside placemaking by renovating pocket parks throughout the city. Places to rest and places to gather more info on what’s happening in the city. We look forward to all the ways we can enjoy each other and our city during the month of August and September!

Prisma Health Swamp Rabbit Trail Improvements

The City of Travelers Rest was awarded a $5,000 NAR Placemaking grant from the Greater Greenville Association of Realtors for trail improvements. The funds were used to beautify a section of the trail behind the TRee House Cafe & Studio. We would like to thank volunteers from GGAR for coming out and working with city staff on this project.

In addition to the beautification project, the Greenville County Department of  Recreation completed an 8.6 -mile repaving project from Downtown Travelers Rest to Unity Park! Trail closures have ended and the new, widened pavement looks great.

Community Input Meeting Held for North Poinsett Streetscape Project

On July 13th and 14th, City leaders, project engineers, and SCDOT officials met with members of the community to discuss plans for the North Poinsett Streetscape Project. The project aims to improve accessibility by adding sidewalks and bike lanes as well as greenery and streetscaping. Community input at this stage is critical to inform future phases of the project planning process. We appreciate all that came out!

New Kiosks Keep Residents & Visitors Informed

Be on the lookout for three new kiosks in town. The City of Travelers Rest has installed the kiosks to keep residents and visitors up-to-date on the latest happenings and need-to-know info.
Find them in the following locations:

  • Trailblazer Park
  • The History Museum
  • Next to the Whistle Stop Parking lot

Road Improvement Project

The Roe Road Project at Hwy 25 is tentatively scheduled to begin the week of August 16th. This project’s goal is to improve safety and traffic by adding an additional right turn lane on Roe Rd. in front of McDonalds. The project will also realign the intersection of S. End Circle with Roe Center Ct.

Roads will not be closed during construction and it’s estimated to take 10 – 14 days to complete. We will post more details on this project as they become available on our social media channels.
