Talk of the Town – October 2024

From the Mayor’s Desk

Dear TR Friends,

Super grateful for everyone’s hard work to put our city and homes back together after Helene damage. TR has always been about caring for our neighbors and we see that in full effect during challenging times. As we continue clean up, we are also moving into the holiday season and celebrating time together.

Apparently, TR loves candy and scarecrows, as our trick or treating and downtown scarecrow competition are two of our most popular and crowded events. We loved seeing all the families dressed up and our local businesses having fun giving out candy.

As we move into November, we’ll continue with our holiday small town events while working to support the shopping season for our local merchants. Remember to shop local first and early as our merchants are ready to wow you!

You’re invited to a public meeting on Thursday, November 7th, at 5:00 pm to discuss the upcoming Poinsett Hwy. Street Improvement Project, scheduled to begin next month.

This meeting offers an opportunity for community members to provide input, ask questions, and learn more about the project.

Your participation is encouraged!

Debris Removal Update

Our Public Works department is actively working to collect storm-related debris on city-maintained roads throughout the month. While there is no set schedule, crews will be making multiple passes, so if debris is missed on the first pass, rest assured they’ll return.

TR Police Supporting Those in Need

We are proud to highlight the efforts of our Police Officers, who assisted the devastated Hendersonville, NC Police Department in their time of need.

Officer Allen McWhite, and Captain Dan Kobler made several trips to deliver food, water, and supplies, ensuring that the Hendersonville Police Department could continue serving their community during the recovery efforts.

The dedication, and selflessness of our entire team, exemplifies the spirit of compassion and service that unites us all in times of crisis.

A Heartfelt Thank You to Our Public Works Department

We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the incredible staff from our Public Works department, who worked tirelessly around the clock to clean up our City after the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene.

Thanks to their hard work, the City of Travelers Rest and our local businesses were able to quickly return to serving the community. We are fortunate to have such a committed team that ensures our City remains resilient in times of need.

Thank you for your unwavering service!

Fire Prevention with the TR Fire Department

Earlier this month, Travelers Rest firefighters made a meaningful impact by distributing Fire Prevention Week Kits to families while visiting Steve Borklund’s State Farm office. The kits were packed with educational materials, helping children understand the crucial role of working smoke alarms in fire safety.

Timed perfectly with Fire Prevention Week, held from October 6th to 12th, this initiative highlights their dedication to saving lives and promoting safety across our community.

REMINDER: Working Smoke Alarms Save Lives! Check the batteries in your smoke alarm when the clock goes back, this Sunday, November 3rd.
